From Films to Awards: 5 Females To Watch Out For at This Year’s Oscars

There is no doubt that one of the most notable days of the year is coming up on February 9th; the Oscars. Every year, this day gives women the chance to be credited with their talent and a platform to empower other females. To shed light on some of the women who deserve it the most, we chose to look at five impressive females that are in the running for the “Best Actress in a Leading Role”.

Scarlett johansson

Scarlett Johansson is making a name for herself at this upcoming Oscars. She is not only a first-time nominee, but is also being dual nominated for the films she starred in, Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. Johansson began her acting career at the young age of 13 and has developed into a well-known name in the industry. Best known for her film, The Avengers, this actress has captivated the attention of many as viewers await to see if she will take home an Oscar.

Reneé zellweger

After 16 years without being recognized at the Oscars, Renée Zellweger is making a comeback, as she is a nominee in the Best Actress category. Zellweger is selected as the favorite to win this category for her role as Judy Garland in the film Judy. This film tells the story of Garland’s life after the success she received from The Wizard of Oz. Although Zellweger has still been attending this special event over the years, she finally has another chance at taking home the most significant award in the acting industry.

Cynthia erivo

Nominated for Best Actress and Best Original Song, Cynthia Erivo has so much to be proud of, regardless of whether she comes home with an Oscar or not. Not only has she never been nominated for an Oscar before, she now has two nominations for this years awards ceremony. She starred as Harriet Tubman in the film Harriet, which pays tribute to the late freedom fighter and icon. Besides playing in this key role, Erivo also co-wrote and performed the song ‘Stand Up’ in the film. She is only the third person to earn dual Oscar nominations for both acting and song in the same year. This incredible woman has a strong chance of adding another accolade to her collection.

saoirse ronan

At the age of 25, Saoirse Ronan is nominated for her fourth Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She starred as Jo March in Little Women and is the youngest four-time nominee in history. The film takes a close look at women and their role in marriage in the 1800’s. Ronan has been playing influential female roles since she was 12. She earned her first Oscar nominee at the age of 13, and has already taken home a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in Little Women and now she awaits the opportunity to earn another monumental award.

charlize theron

Charlize Theron is being nominated for her third Academy Award for her lead role in Bombshell. Playing Megyn Kelly, this film portrays the individuals who were sexually assaulted by the CEO of Fox News, Roger Ailes. Theron was also nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice. Although she knows it’s likely that she will not come home with an Oscar this year, she still has distinguished herself as a dominant female in the world of film.
